It was a stunner in the world of female professional wrestling. The sound of jaws hitting the mat echoed through arenas across the land as the sudden announcement of Himeka's retirement hit the wrestling community. A rising star in the ring, the 25-year-old Jumbo Princess - known simply as Himeka to her fans - had reached the top of her game as a member of the Donna Del Mondo unit, led by the world champion Guulia. With titles including the Goddess Champion and Artist Champion, the wrestling world was left grappling with the question, why?
Himeka confided in her tag partner Maika, who simply replied, 'Oh, I see' upon hearing the news. The members of Donna Del Mondo all understood and supported Himeka's decision, recognizing that it was a good time for her to start a new chapter in her life. And what a chapter it's been for Himeka, who began her journey in the world of professional wrestling after the dissolution of the idol group ThruSkills in June 2017. She received guidance from Jun Akiyama, the then-President of All Japan Pro Wrestling, and made her debut in December of that same year. In just three years, Himeka had become a household name, capturing the hearts of fans with her in-ring prowess and infectious personality."
But as any wrestler knows, the show must go on, and Himeka found herself struggling to keep up the act. Despite being at the height of her popularity, she had lost the fire that fueled her desire to win. And as she stood in the ring, watching champions like Guilia and Syuri, she realized that she couldn't fulfill the responsibilities or meet the expectations of being a Stardom champion. It was a difficult realization, but one that Himeka came to with a heavy heart. She knew that if she continued in this state, it could lead to a major injury with no positive outcome.
So why retire now? After all, professional wrestling is a vocation that can be pursued at any age as long as one is free of injury. But Himeka had made a promise to herself from the beginning of her career, to retire after five years. And as she approached that milestone, she felt that the time was right to consider hanging up her boots. She wanted to depart at the height of her popularity, rather than be thought of as leaving because the group's popularity had waned.
"My heart has yet to catch up with my circumstances, and I still struggle with anxieties about my father. However, I know that as a wrestler, I must perform and conceal these inner struggles, for fear of disrupting the delicate balance of my mind," she confided.
Himeka will take a year-long sabbatical to tend to her feline companion and prioritize her own self-care. Having spent so much time in the public eye, she often felt burdened by the insincere remarks of anonymous individuals and neglected her own well-being. But with the support of her partner Maika, her friends, and her family, Himeka is ready to step away from the limelight and lead a humble existence, without any lofty expectations. And who knows, she might even take up a job at a local establishment, with a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face.
Retirement for longevity? It may not be as cute as Himeka would have liked, but it's a well-deserved break for a wrestler who has given so much of herself to the sport. And though she won't be getting married, Himeka will always be remembered as a shining star in the world of professional wrestling. Born May 28th, 1997 in Aomori Prefecture, Himeka stands at 172 cm and weighs in at 65 kg, a formidable force in the ring and a true champion in every sense of the word.
